Biography
Sarge is a bit of a mystery. They insist that they were stationed at the airstrip on Hope Island as a vanguard against an old invading force, and that they're expecting to be reassigned off the island and back home to their family any day now. Even moreso now, since the islanders told them that the war they believe they fought in is over.
But their story doesn't check out. For starters, the ID card they show around has the face of a human woman on it. The other documents they've offered as proof of their position are extremely aged and brittle, and it's likely that they're older than any living being on the Island. For some reason, this tiny little bat has assumed the persona of Sergeant McLoughlan, but what that reason might be is anyone's guess.
Their personal history might be dubious, but their skill with airplane maintenance is legitimate. There's an entire working plane in the hangar of the airstrip thanks to them, and though it might be a rough ride with its seat cushions all stripped out, it otherwise looks like it just rolled off the line. Sarge has done their homework.
Play Notes
- They aren't timid, though they talk in a quiet ramble. Imagine Boomhauer from King of the Hill speaking in sotto vocce.
- They seem extremely sensitive to loud noises, and the last time a gun went off around them they had an anxiety attack.
- They're small. They barely crack three feet standing on their tiptoes. And since they go around shrouded in an olive-colored cloak, they look vaguely like some kind of Jawa. Just fluffier.
- They are adamant about staying right where they're at in case reassignments show up to take them home. They don't want to be assumed to have gone AWOL, after all.
- The exact reason Sarge assumed the personality of Sergeant McLoughlan is still up in the air, but whatever it is, it caused them to begin to suffer from a dissociative fugue. Their old personality has been completely subsumed by their new one.
