NOTE
This RP has come and gone, but this page remains for those curious about it!
Summary
Some weeks ago, former residents Laika and Central contacted someone presumably in Kazakhstan over the radio. The details of the conversation are unknown (except to Laika) as it was entirely in Russian. Laika was apparently told an airplane would be sent to the town.
On the RP of May 18th 2019, that airplane finally arrived in the form of a Beriev Be-200 sea plane.
Aboard this plane is some (probably small) number of soldiers lead by Major Oleg. Upon arriving, his troops immediately blew up and killed Virgil, crippling his boat the Styx, which has gone missing. The stated purpose being to remove the town's primary defense and to demonstrate that there will be no hesitation to use force if compliance is not given. He is here to take over the town in the name of the New Russian Empire.
Further, he stated that he is the “tip of the spear”, and that killing him and his men would merely result in stronger retribution from more Russians on the way.
Sheridan pretended to not be the man in charge in order to arrange to get the townsfolk away from the Russians, under the pretext that they would meet with the actual leader. As a result, the bat named Fall was picked to represent the town and is the town's leader as far as the Russians know.
A town discussion followed, and after batting around many ideas, the town decided to surrender knowing that resistance could be mounted in the future and that it would be wise to gather more information about these new enemies before doing something that can't be undone.
So the surrender was delivered by Fall and Sheridan, and the following conditions and promises were made.
- The Russians have promised not to invade homes or take posessions unless resistance from the town compells them to do so.
- Any large weapons – artillery, vehicles, etc. – will be disarmed by having the ammo taken away. They have promised to return the ammo once Hope Island is officially part of the New Russian Empire.
- Townsfolk are allowed to retain their small arms. However, Major Oleg has noted that the Russian policy is to shoot first and ask no questions, so he recommends all weapons be holstered, slung, or carried unloaded with open bolt for the safety of all involved.
- His men will occupy the Town Hall. They work in shifts, so someone is always awake, and someone is always on the airplane.
- Nobody is to approach the airplane for any reason.
- All residents are required to submit to an interview. These interviews will remain 'friendly' as long as there is no resistance to them.
- Nobody is allowed to leave the island until the interviews are completed. Ships arriving to the island will be permitted on a case by case basis.
- Oleg's men, for the most part, do not speak English so he has advised if there are communication problems, to request for him to get on the radio and translate.
Interview RP
So as noted above with the conditions, the Russians want to talk to everyone in town. ICly, this is mandatory. OOCly, this is, of course, optional.
If you want to RP your interview *or* RP some situation around your interview (such as hiding, escaping, etc.) then please contact Oleg via p #mail or whatnot to arrange to do it.
If you do not want to RP your interview, then it will be assumed that Oleg talks to you at some point and nothing of interest or note happens during the interview.
There will be a few people on the island that Oleg will reach out to that he specifically wants to ICly talk to, however, for most people the interview is kind of like “flavor RP”. Though who knows what could come of it, so, it could be fun to try and see what happens as a result!
Closing Notes
This RP is designed to give the island a real threat that is a daily presence. However, it is supposed to be fun and an intersting story, so if at any point the RP becomes stressful or unpleasant for you, please be honest OOCly and we'll try to sort it out. This is not a situation that is intended to last long term, either, so expect more RP's to follow-up and come to a resolution!
