Editlook
Editlook (sometimes called 'morph' on other MUCKs) is a description handling program. It allows players to make complex multi-paragraph descriptions and to easily switch between them, send messages when outfits are changed, notify them when people look at them, and other functions..
editlook #help
will get you started and produce the following output as instructions.
editlook <string> Wear desc <string>. editlook #list List your currently stored descs. editlook #add Add a desc. editlook #edit Edit a stored desc. editlook #delete Delete a stored desc. editlook #format Edit your look-notify formats. editlook #restore Restore desc worn before using this program.
Pinfo/Setpinfo
Pinfo (sometimes known as Cinfo on other MUCKs) is a Player Information system, although it's been internalized within the lore of Hope Island to mean Personal Information. It's separated into two commands.
setpinfo
is used when setting up one's pinfo initially.
setpinfo #help
will produce the following to assist players in getting started.
setpinfo #help -- This screen setpinfo #clear <field> -- Clears a field setpinfo #notify -- Enable notification when someone views your pinfo setpinfo #!notify -- Disable notification setpinfo <start of field name> -- Edit field (for longer fields) setpinfo <start of field name>=<value> -- Set field to value
To see a list of fields that one can set on themselves, one can type
pinfo #fields
and see that Character, EMail, F-List, Image, Player, Preference, Residence, Roleplay, and Notify are permitted, each specifying information or resources you can provide that others can view to get to know you better.
pinfo <player>
will view someone else's pinfo, and you can view your own with
pinfo me
. Within the lore of Hope Island, pinfo information is considered to exist in a database viewable from everyone's PDTC (Personal Device for Text Communication) or 'pid-tec', as this is a way of integrating some of the programs within the in-character universe. Hence, some people choose to write their pinfo (or at least some of the fields within their pinfo) from a first person perspective.
WI/WIXXX
Most MUCKs have a version of this program. The one used on Hope Island is derived from a stripped-down version of the one used on Tapestries MUCK. What Is or WI is a program to list a sequence of flags regarding types of roleplay themes you are interested in. Generally, wixxx is heavily slanted towards sexual roleplay, and can be thought of almost as a list of kinks. Since sexual roleplay is not a defining characteristic of Hope Island, use of wixxx is considered optional.
wi #help
will produce the following helpful information:
wi #help2 - Important stuff! Read me! wi - Show whatis info for everyone awake in the room wi <name> - Show whatis info for that person wi <mask> - Show whatis info for any person online whose name matches the mask, such as 'Ruf*' or just '*' for all wi #help - This screen wi #flags - Show all the standard flags you can use. wi #set <flags> - Set your whatis flags to those listed. wi #add <flags> - Add the listed flags to your whatis setting. wi #clear <flags> - Clear the listed flags from your whatis setting. wi #custom <text> - Set your custom text, up to 30 characters worth. wi #find <flags> - Find anyone online with those whatis flags set. wi #order <flags> - Show these flags first when viewing others. <flags> is a space separated list of flags (wi #flags to see them)
Please check out the WIXXX Flags page for more information on the individual flags.
Smell/Taste/Feel
Allows for more interaction with other players and also places and objects within the environment. Use of this functionality is considered optional, unlike descriptions which are necessary. Players can set information regarding how they smell, feel, taste, etc. As usual,
smell #help
will provide most of the necessary instructions to get started. As mentioned, these properties can be set on objects in addition to players, allowing for a more detailed interaction with the environment if one desires.
Messageboards (read/write/etc.)
Unlike other MUCKs who have single messageboards for specific locations distributed throughout the environment, Hope Island uses a centralized, global messageboard system with sub-boards that is accessible from anywhere in-game. This is internalized within the lore like most other programs as being used via the previously mentioned PDTC devices.
read #help
will produce the following output:
read ............................ List all boards read <board> .................... List posts on <board> read <board>/<post> ............. Display <post> from <board> read #search <string> ........... Search all boards for <string> read #search <board>/<string> ... Search <board> for <string> read #new ....................... List number of new posts on all boards read #new <board> ............... List all new posts on <board> read #last <time> ............... Display all posts since <time> read #last <board>/<time> ....... Display all posts on <board> since <time>
Simply typing
read
will produce the list of messageboards:
BULLETIN BOARDS: 1) 1 Welcome & Getting Started (6 posts) 2) 2 Messages from the Mayor (1 post) 3) 3 General Public Board (9 posts) 4) 4 OOC Board (4 posts)
Using the number of the specific bulletin board will list all messages on that particular board. For example, if you were to type
read 1
:
-- 1 WELCOME & GETTING STARTED ( Board #1 ) ---------------------------- 1) Welcome & Background ( Sheridan, 09/26/18 ) 2) Setting up your Information ( Sheridan, 09/26/18 ) 3) Communicating with Others ( Sheridan, 09/26/18 ) 4) Money, and Finding a Home ( Sheridan, 09/26/18 ) 5) The Basics of Building ( Sheridan, 09/26/18 ) 6) Closing Remarks ( Sheridan, 09/26/18 )
An individual message can be read with, for example,
read 1/1
for the first message in the Welcome & Getting Started board.
LSCHhat/OOCChat
In addition to the messageboards, Hope Island uses a real-time, global chatroom system to allow MUCK-wide communication between people regardless of where they are. There are two channels enabled:
lschat
is meant for in-character text communication, and
oocchat
is intended for out-of-character communication.
lschat #help
will produce the usual list of commands to help a player get familiar, but the chat programs are extremely simple. Typing
<channel> #on
will enable that channel and you will be able to communicate on it with
<channel> <message>
, and it does support poses.
lschat Hello!
works, as does
lschat :waves
. You can turn the channels off for you with
<channel> #off
if you don't wish to see the messages anymore.
<channel> #who
will give you a list of everyone who is listening to that channel.
Page & Whisper
Page and Whisper are a staple of any MUCK server and Hope Island is no different. Whispers are used for private messages to people in the same room as you, and can be done with
wh <name>=<message>
. Pages operate similarly with
p <name>=<message>
and both programs have a
#help
command for more detailed information regarding their usage. Within the lore of Hope Island, pages are typically considered in-character text-messages using the PDTC network (unless you want to specify a page is OOC) and whispers are considered actually whispering to someone at close range.
WF/WatchFor
WatchFor is another common MUCK program, and is used to set up a watch list of players that you would like to know are online. WatchFor, when set up, will tell you a list of connected players you are watching for when you log in, and also provide the list manually when you type
wf
. You can
wf <name>
to watch for someone and
wf !<name>
to stop watching for them. WF will also display messages when a watched person connects, disconnects, or reconnects. As a privacy feature, the connection message is broadcast 60 seconds after the player actually connects. This allows people to log in quickly to check messages or perform other tasks and log back out without being bothered by others, if they so wish.
wf #help
will provide more detailed usage information, including things like how to hide your connection status from other players if you'd like.
WS/WA/WZ/WD
A collection of commands letting you see who's around. Each one covers a different level of granularity:
WS
: shows who's currently in the same room as you, as well as their gender and speciesWA
: shows who's in the same area as you, and which room they're in. Support for WA has to specifically be built into an area. If the area doesn't have its own WA, it defaults to behaving like WZWZ
: shows the total number of people in any given area, MUCK-wide. Locations that do not support WZ will not show up, regardless of whether or not they're occupied. The commandLC
can also be used and behaves identicallyWD
: shows the names and connection times of all characters currently connected to the MUCK. The command3W
can also be used, and shows a condensed, three column view
All commands use
#help
to provide further information.
